Ford Expands BlueOval Charging Network
In a recent announcement, Ford revealed a significant expansion of its BlueOval Charge Network, solidifying its position as North America’s largest public charging network by an automaker. With over 22,000 new chargers added, the network now boasts a total of more than 106,000 chargers, offering even more convenience and accessibility for Ford EV customers in the U.S. and Canada.
Expansion and New Partnerships
Ford is not only expanding its charging infrastructure but also enhancing user experience by partnering with three new charging providers: Francis Energy, Blink, and the upcoming Red E. This strategic move adds over 10,000 new chargers to the network, including more than 550 DC fast chargers. Combined with the continuous growth from existing partners, such as Shell Recharge Solutions, Electrify America, and ChargePoint, Ford is ensuring a diverse and extensive charging network.
Growth and Future Plans
Since the last charger count update in May, Ford has added more than 1,700 DC fast chargers and over 20,300 Level 2 chargers. The network now includes access to over 11,800 fast chargers, with plans for substantial additional DC fast-charger growth starting in the Spring of 2024. This forward-looking approach underscores Ford’s commitment to supporting the growing number of EVs on the road.
Seamless Experience for Ford EV Drivers
The BlueOval Charge Network is designed to be a “network of networks,” offering Ford EV drivers access to various charging providers without the hassle of multiple apps and memberships. The FordPassĀ® App enables users to enjoy embedded charger routing, simple payment options, and seamless trip planning. The network’s unique feature eliminates the need for multiple payment methods, providing a hassle-free experience for users.
Ford Pro Intelligence for Commercial Customers
For commercial customers relying on public chargers, Ford Pro Intelligence software ensures seamless payment and billing. Fleet operators can set up a single Public Charge Management account for centralized billing, charging logs, and monthly invoicing, simplifying the management of charging costs regardless of the drivers’ locations.
Tesla Superchargers and Dealership Chargers
Ford is also increasing the estimated number of Tesla Superchargers added to the BlueOval Charge Network, from 12,000 to over 15,000, with availability planned for next spring via an adapter. Moreover, Ford Model e dealerships like Doggett Ford are installing public-facing fast chargers across the U.S. and Canada, expanding the network’s coverage.
With more than 80% of Ford EV drivers currently charging at home, the BlueOval Charge Network provides an extensive and growing public charging solution. Whether on a daily commute or a longer road trip, Ford EV customers can now enjoy an even more comprehensive network of chargers, complemented by home and commercial depot charging solutions. As the BlueOval Charge Network continues to grow, Ford is ensuring that its EV customers are covered, making the transition to electric vehicles smoother and more convenient than ever.
